New Report Urges Free Movement Between The UK, Canada, Australia & New Zealand

JAN 19, 2017 — This week, a report published by the Free Enterprise Group has urged negotiations for free movement between the UK, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.

The report mentions how free movement between the four Commonwealth nations has garnered support from Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary, Boris Johnson, and includes a foreword by former Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, stating:

"The movement of goods between our two countries should be absolutely free of tariffs or quotas...provided people are coming to work rather than to take advantage of social security or health services, Australians should also be free to live in the UK and vice versa":

As free trade agreements are the precursor to freedom of movement, both Canada and New Zealand have also emphasised their commitment to establishing swift trade agreements with the United Kingdom once Brexit is implemented.

British Prime Minister, Theresa May, recently met with New Zealand Prime Minister, Bill English, for successful talks on post-Brexit negotiations based on shared historic ties, values and commitments to free trade:

Canadian High Commissioner, Janice Charette, also revealed this week that Canadian and British officials are laying the groundwork for a new relationship once the UK leaves the European Union.

"We’ve been having conversations with both the members of the cabinet as well as senior members of the civil service", Charette stated, emphasising that a future Canada-UK agreement will "go beyond the gold standard" of regular trade agreements:
